CQI IRCA ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Training

A CQI IRCA certified five-day Lead Auditor course for ISO 45001, giving delegates the knowledge and skills to perform first, second and third-party audits of occupational health and safety management systems.

Aims & Objectives

The aim of this course is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to perform first, second and third-party audits of occupational health and safety management systems against ISO 45001:2018, in accordance with ISO 19011 and ISO 17021 where appropriate.

On completion, delegates will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of an OHS management system and the business and societal benefits of improving OHS performance
  • Explain the role of an auditor in planning, conducting, reporting and following up an OHS management system audit in accordance with ISO 19011 and ISO 17021-1 where appropriate
  • Plan, conduct, report and follow up an audit of an OHS management system to establish conformity (or otherwise) with ISO 45001:2018

Requirements

A working knowledge of ISO 45001:2018 is recommended before attending. The course contains workshops for each session across the five days and finishes with a written examination.

Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems

  • The need for and benefits of an OHS system
  • ISO 45001, the standard, and its compatibility with other standards
  • The process approach and the concept of OHS management

Process-Based OHS

  • Application of the PDCA cycle and the context of the organisation
  • Leadership and policy; actions to address risks and opportunities; hazards and risks
  • Compliance obligations and OHS objectives
  • Competence, awareness and communication; documented information
  • Operational planning and control; emergency preparedness and response
  • Monitoring, measurement and continual improvement
  • National occupational health and safety legislation, and audit trails

Registration, Certification & Auditor Competence

  • Certification and registration of organisations
  • Certification and competence of auditors, and the personal characteristics of auditors

Audits: Definition, Principles & Process

  • Audit definition, principles of auditing and types of audit
  • The certification process, planning the audit, audit roles and responsibilities, and good practice at meetings

Preparing & Conducting the Audit

  • Preparing for the on-site audit (stage 1): initial contact, document review, the audit plan and work documents
  • Developing the audit checklist
  • Conducting the on-site audit (stage 2): collecting and verifying information, opening meeting, guides' roles, questioning techniques and controlling the audit
  • Communication with the audit client and auditee

Review, Reporting & Follow-Up

  • Audit review meeting, audit findings, finding statements, corrective action requests (CARs) and their classification, and opportunities for improvement
  • Presenting findings, reporting on the audit and audit completion
  • Corrective action, management review, follow-up and close out

Notes

The course contains workshops for each session across the five days and finishes with a written examination. Comprehensive notes will be given to all delegates who attend.

Certification

Learners who pass both the examination and the continuous assessment will be issued with a Certificate of Achievement, which satisfies the formal training requirement for an individual seeking certification as a CQI / IRCA auditor or lead auditor. This certificate is valid for five years from the last day of the course for the purpose of certifying with the CQI / IRCA. Learners who complete the full course but do not pass the continuous assessment will receive a Certificate of Attendance. Learners who pass the continuous assessment but fail the written examination will receive a Certificate of Attendance and may re-sit the examination within 12 months of the original course end date.
