CQI IRCA ISO 45001 Internal Auditor Training

A CQI IRCA certified internal auditor course for ISO 45001, giving delegates the knowledge and skills to audit an occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS).

Aims & Objectives

This course gives delegates the skills to plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal audit of an occupational health and safety management system against ISO 45001:2018, in accordance with ISO 19011 (and ISO/IEC 17021-1 where appropriate).

On completion, delegates will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of an OHS management system and the business and societal benefits of improving OHS performance
  • Explain the role of an auditor in planning, conducting, reporting and following up an OHS management system audit in accordance with ISO 19011 and ISO 17021-1 where appropriate
  • Plan, conduct, report and follow up an audit of an OHS management system to establish conformity (or otherwise) with ISO 45001:2018

Learners must demonstrate acceptable performance in all these areas to complete the course successfully.

Those who are, or are about to become, internal auditors of an occupational health and safety management system, and anyone wishing to gain a recognised qualification in ISO 45001 internal auditing.

Requirements

It is recommended that delegates familiarise themselves with ISO 45001:2018 and their own OHS management system before attending. Learners must demonstrate acceptable performance in all areas to complete the course successfully.

Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems

  • The need for and benefits of an OHS system
  • ISO 45001:2018, the standard, and its compatibility with other standards
  • The concept of OHS management, the organisation's strategic direction, and internal and external issues
  • Relevant interested parties and their needs and expectations

Process-Based OHS

  • Application of the plan, do, check, act (PDCA) cycle
  • The structure and key points of ISO 45001:2018
  • The role of the auditor
  • National occupational health and safety legislation, audit evidence and audit trails

Audits: Definition, Principles & Process

  • Audit definition, principles of auditing and types of audit
  • The certification process, planning the audit, audit roles and responsibilities, and good practice at meetings
  • Preparing for the audit: document review and the audit plan
  • Developing the checklist

Conducting & Reviewing the Audit

  • Conducting the on-site audit (stage 2): collecting and verifying information, opening meeting, guides' roles, questioning techniques and controlling the audit
  • Communication with the audit client and auditee
  • Audit review: audit findings, finding statements, corrective action requests (CARs) and their classification, and opportunities for improvement

CQI / IRCA Registration

  • Certification and registration of organisations
  • Certification of auditors

Certification

Certificates issued are IRCA accredited. On successful completion delegates will receive a CQI IRCA certified ISO 45001 Internal Auditor certificate.
