DSEAR Training 3 Day

Aims & Objectives

This three-day course is aimed at those who have not yet undertaken a DSEAR risk assessment and who are most likely to both work in the environment and manage the area day to day. While it follows the structure of our original one-day IOSH-certified course, the depth of content and the number of topics covered are greatly increased, giving delegates a thorough, practical understanding of DSEAR risk assessment.

Suitability

Operatives, laboratory workers, managers and safety managers who work in, and are responsible for, areas where dangerous substances or explosive atmospheres are present — particularly those who have not yet carried out a DSEAR risk assessment.

Requirements

No prior DSEAR risk assessment experience is required. Working group activities form part of the course.

Syllabus

DSEAR Foundations

• The structure and requirements of the DSEAR Regulations
• Building on the original IOSH-certified syllabus, with greatly increased depth and topic coverage

Dust & Vapour in Depth

• Combustible dust covered in greater depth, with example videos and data analytics
• ATEX vapour and dust classifications

Area Classification & Ex Zoning

• BS EN 60079-10 Ex zone determination
• A greater understanding of Ex zoning and how ATEX fits into the DSEAR equation
• Gas groups, subgroups and temperature ratings explained

Flammable Vapours & Practical Calculation

• The theoretical understanding of flammable vapours
• How the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) can be converted into a meaningful quantity or volume of chemical or dust per cubic metre of space

Applying It in Your Workplace

• Working group activities relating the material to delegates' own work environments
• Each delegate is supplied with a copy of a typical risk assessment template
• A detailed 150-page training manual to support ongoing learning

Assessment

• Multiple-choice examination at the end of the course
• Minimum pass mark of 70%

Notes

Each course delegate will receive a full and detailed 150-page training manual and a copy of a typical DSEAR risk assessment template. Working group activities are required, along with a multiple-choice exam; the required pass mark is a minimum of 70%. Fully comprehensive notes will be given to all delegates who attend.

Certification

On satisfactory completion of the course a certificate of competence will be issued that will be valid for three years.
